I am a photographer, my name is Michael Wood, I am 72 years old. I studied Photography when I was young, at the Nova Scotia College of Art And Design in the 1970’s. I have been an avid photographer seemingly of all of my life, I shot film for many years and made the transition to digital in the late 1990’s.
My interests in photography are free form, with a tendency toward abstract nature. Pictures that depict the human condition and make the viewer pause and think attract me.
I spent most of my adult life traveling the world working as a video director and producer with my hobby of photography on the side. In the 2000’s I remember talking to someone and telling them I was a photographer (because that’s how I self identified) and they asked me where I was showing. I had a lot of pictures but nobody saw them except when they were included in art films or videos. I always got endless compliments on them, but they really only existed in a realm I could not put on display. I became determined to get my work out there. Since then I have sold my work in many venues to complete strangers, art curators and collectors. I have had several solo shows, been part of many group shows etc etc.
In the summer of 2021 I had a stroke which put a damper on my activities and caused me to take a fresh look at my life. Time to slow down and smell the roses. Photography has stuck and now I have a camera with an adaptable viewfinder so I don’t have to lift the camera to my eye. My eyes are still seeing pictures, and my body has adapted to support my pursuits.
